Does what it is supposed to do: small and competent.
Although it is fast (for file serving) and not bad for photos, it does not have enough power to handle the Synology optional "Moments" package: it can become unresponsive. Note the Moments is preinstalled: I recommend removing it before adding photos. It is simple to set up, but it always takes more than 10 minutes: you have to wait.
It is quiet, and the fan speed can also be controlled. The LED indicator lights have adjustable brightness too, so the small (not much bigger than 2 3.5inch drives) white unit can be unobtrusive.
I find some of the optional Synology packages confusing: what exactly do they do, why would I want one? But those packages were not part of my requirements, so no loss.
As usual the DSM (V6.2) OS is easy to use.
