What's not to Love-craft?!

Stanley/Lovecraft/Cage? I'd been salivating for this film since I first heard tell of it in hushed tones! Pre-ordered the bluray from HMV,something I never do but felt like treating myself,because I'm worth it. The film in no way disappointed,Richard Stanley crafting a contemporary take on Lovecraft while in no way losing the sense of creeping dread culminating in nerve(& eyeball)shredding otherworldlyness,& finding a muse in Nic Cage. The HMV 'special' edition was a different matter however. As advertised as having 'exclusive bonus content' had assumed I was getting an in-depth making-of at the very least. Nice cover,but completely vanilla with NO extras at all. Politely expressed my displeasure at misleading advertising,Got refunded & treated myself(again)to a German import edition. Glad I did,4k UHD bluray (Will have a 4k player one day,& if ever a film deserved 4k it's this one!),standard bluray & a disc of truly awesome & extensive extras.

Brutal & beautiful. 'film-meets-film' comparisons aren't my favourite form of review,but if you try to picture 'Sympathy For Lady Vengeance'-meets-'Crank' you won't be far off. The best pre-title opening you'll see,& a lot of the set-pieces will leave you wondering exactly how the hell they were shot,a refreshing change from 'spot the cgi '. If you like action with a heart,& don't mind blood-letting or subtitles,then strap in,it's going to be a bumpy ride!
