OIL contamination help R2AA Mazda 2.2 diesel MZR-CD
As you probably know that Mazda 2.2 diesel haves oil contamination issues (diesel fuel goes into the oil sump) - what could sometimes lead to engine distraction. In general oil contamination happens for 3 the most common reasons:
1 Fuel pump leak in the timing chain area
2 Regeneration issues (driving too slow or low RPM when engine receives too much fuel)
3 Injectors washers leak
INJECTOR WASHERS
I had that issue on my Mazda 2.2 diesel 185bhp and Replacing injectors washers is probably easiest task, to begin with!! Indeed !! one of the OLD injector washers did not seal properly (see pictures) and I could clearly see it when I took old out and placed new in.
Placing new washers I wanted them to seal properly, therefore, I read manual properly what torque and angle to use - cause it is crucial to push the injectors EVENLY:
1 tight each nut until it presses injectors with slightly with hands
2 tight each nut to 1.5 Nm
3 tight each nut to 2.5 Nm
4 turn each nut to 45 degrees angle
5 turn each nut to 45 degrees angle
All in all, when I have done it all 5th step was equal to 10 Nm torque, but it is crucial to turn nuts by small bits evenly (instead 10Nm each in one time)!
Additionally, I took an extra step after a first run when the engine cooled down next morning - I checked the nuts with 10Nm torque! I had to say 3 out of 8 nuts needed to be tightened FURTHER to 10Nm. (it is a bit different from Mazda Manual but I too extra precaution steps with my car from my experience on my risk)
All in all, the engine pulls way better !! what a huge difference!! uses less fuel and I am sure it has NO leak through washers.
VALVE SETTINGS
As you replace injector washers it is easy to check the valves cause these engines NEED MANUAL Valve Adjustment Procedure!! every 30.000 miles or something - don't skip it. Valves need to be checked at 0.20 and 0.15 on the cold engine (see pictures).
