Bible for inquisitive people.
It's a popular edition of the RSV Bible with all the books included that theologically square people thought too dodgy for nice Christians - or too revealing of truth to let Joe Smith see just where the Church has deviated from Truth. Literally.

Unless the Lord builds the House...
That church people (especially 'leaders') should acknowledge and reflect upon the consequences of post-modernism is to be welcomed. That the number of unchurched in the USA would amount - if they were a country - to the fifth largest in the world has certainly forced people to think about the relevance of the Church, the nature of its Message and the manner of its preaching and practices.
For any country (especially the USA or the UK) to blithely assume itself to be "Christian" is, in this post-modern, Secular Age, a profoundly destructive delusion and a suicidal self-denial. The book's strength lies in admitting this is a serious dilemma and that questions need to be asked about Christianity's methodolgy. What it lacks is the brutal honesty necessary to even consider that the "Gospel" (or "Message") the majority of Christian groups ("churches") proclaim, preach or pontificate upon is NOT the Gospel of Jesus, Paul, Peter and James AT ALL! "Emerging Church" may discuss a measurable phenomenon in 21st Century church history and development, but it falls short of even recognising that "Unless the LORD builds the house, they that labour do so in vain." (Psalm 127).

Faith without the Trinity is NO faith at all!
Without the recovery of Trinitarian belief and faith all pretence at Christianity is wasted energy and time. To miss the inter-dependent, love-driven relationship between the Father, Mothering Spirit and Sacrificial Son is to miss out on the overwhelming, unconditional power of LOVE that is the dynamic of Creation. Rahner put his finger on the pulse of Christianism and found it already dead. Resurrection life is inside the force-field of a Three-in-One God - to recover Trinity is to recover the meaning, purpose and and practice of authentic faith. This book sums this all up!
