just beautiful
this series is absolutely beautiful, even without taking into account the fascinating subject matter. the animation is done in a similar style to Gankotsuou, a feverish mashup of colours and textures laid under linework based on ukiyo-e woodcuts. the stories themselves are really interesting because, as they are based in Japanese folktales and mythology, there is less Western cultural influence than you usually see in anime. it makes for an almost otherworldly air to the series even without the magical realism of the world presented.
if you like this series, definitely check out the anthology that it expanded from, Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Stories, as the Mononoke segment, Bakeneko, is a fantastic bookend to the series.

Completely Adorable
i ordered this expecting it to be a cheap vinyl bag that wouldn't last too long, but i live 'lucky cats' and figured it would be a cute place to stow my work ID cards for a while. i was pleasantly surprised to find that it is much better quality than i expected, with a flocked lining, more durable 'hinge', and thicker vinyl than you usually see on inexpensive novelty items. in addition, it was shipped very quickly and the seller was very helpful and polite in all interactions. overall, i would definitely be happy to purchase from them again. thanks!
