Great read, classic punchy noir storytelling

I hadn't heard of Charles Willeford before, then I read that Elmore Leonard and Lawrence Block both reckoned that he was the best detective fiction writer ever. They're right. He pulls no punches and you are constantly surprised by the twists and turns of the narrative. This is unputdownable. The humour is dark - but wonderfully funny. Highly recommended.
