Barbel tripod

This new tripod is to replace an old Trafford one which has giving good service over many years. One thing I don't understand in the new design is why are the tripod legs flat on the bottom and not pointed to allow easier driving into the ground. I cannot think of any advantages of this alteration to the original design.
