A new lease of life for an old CD player.
If, like me, you have an old CD player that works well but the opening mechanism stops working then you need a little kit like this to get it up and running like new again.
It is easy to find instructions on how to replace the gearwheel and belt online and, voila, a CD player as good as new for a fraction of the cost of a new one.

Simple Solution
It's the latest version of built-in obsolescence, my new computer wouldn't recognise my older digital camera they way my old computer did. I have no plans to buy a new camera so the card reader provides the perfect simple low cost alternative.
