The Art of Learning: A Journey in the Pursuit of Excellence
    31 Dec, 2015
    Valuable for all ages
I ordered it for myself, and then my teen children read it. It is written in a clear, fluid style, and offers many insights and thoughts on a variety of topics (many having to do with how to focus, succeed, and view learning). You'll find something of value in it, though it may be something different than what someone else values - a thoughtful book.
Exploits and Adventures of Brigadier Gerard (New York Review Books Classics)
    10 Mar, 2017
    A funny historic read
This book is a collection of short stories about a French cavalry officer in the Napoleonic Wars. Gerard, the main character, is Doyle's second best known creation, and Doyle's personal favorite. In the book, Gerard is the best sword fighter and horse rider in Napoleon's army. He always saves the day, but is not always smart in how he does it. Gerard's blunders and naivety gives the book a comical sense, but action is still on the front. The book is written from Gerard's point of view when he is older. I gave this book a 5 star rating because of how well it is written and because of the humor it contains. Overall, this is one of the better books I have read.
