Good Video Camera for Transferring Hi8 Tapes
2 of 2 found this helpful Formula for transferring Hi 8 Tapes:
1) A Sony Digital 8 camera (this one works just fine).
2) A capture card for computer (got it at Amazon for ~$25).
3) A Firewire cable, 4 pin (hook to Sony) to 9 pin (hook to capture card on comptuer). Again, Amazon for like $8.
4) WinDV software, easy to use (Google WinDV to find it).
5) Lots of your time to play it back one to one.
This process captures it to AVI files which you can:'
1) Just watch them raw in this format, works really well.
2) Import AVI file into another software (video editor) and edit then output video files (and compress if you like).
I'm just going to get a $100 WD 4TB external harddrive and copy my 62 hours (at 13GB / hour) of Hi8 tapes to it and call it done.
