GREAT BOOK FOR UNDERSTANDING ADHD!!!!!!!!!
6 of 6 found this helpful I bought this book because I wanted to have a better understanding of ADHD. As a child I had trouble with reading comprehension and organization and still do as an adult. Now I see these same qualities in my son. I was however, an honors student so it never occured to me that there was a problem. I just thought I was an intelligent ding-a-ling! This book helped me realize what has been going on all these years! It presents such a positive outlook on ADHD through examples of some the most successful, well-recognized people such as Bill Gates. Who Knew? It has helped me realize that this is not a bad thing that should be hidden away and not talked about. Adults and kids with ADHD are still high functioning and very intelligent and usually have great energy with high levels of creativity. They take risks, go with their gut, it's a good thing. They are not easily able to pretend to be someone else, they are authentic! Sometimes they might be too honest but in the long run I think that's a good thing. This book has helped me to better deal with the Preschool students I teach because I understand them so much more. We don't have an attention deficit, it is an attention difference. As an individual with this problem, I just have to do a few special things to allow me to pay attention better. I have to sit up toward the front at a class or in church. Otherwise I will focus on all kinds of other things! If you are wondering if you have this or if you are a parent who is worried about a diagnosis on your own child, please read this book! It will explain the great things and help you fuction better. I think teachers should be required to read this book too so that they might understand how to treat their ADHD students better! READ it, it is wonderful!
