A total immersion into the world of wood. Stunning and Beautiful
Roger Deakin's final book and a natural progression from his aquatic journey the overwhelimingly thoughful and peaceful Waterlog. Wildwood is an absolute must for those of us who already understand his concept of the what he calls the fifth element(read and you'll understand too)He starts by stating "I am a Woodlander" and "I have sap in my veins", a perfect begiining to this immersion into the world of wood. Like Thoreau, once you've read Deakin, his books will become life long companions. Stunning and Beautiful.

Simple and yet profound this book should be a part of anyone's library.
Where to start with this tale that totally enriches the human spirit. It's the story of a humble provencal peasant, Elzeard Bouffier and his simple, yet almost God like effect on the landscape around him. A man's generosity to nature and through nature to other human beings, belongs among the most moving and endearing statements of hope. It has given me so much joy, comfort and hope to read and reread this Jean Giono story of a simple man who quite simply grew happiness. At once simple and yet profound this book should be a part of anyone's personal library of treasured books. If at all possible buy an edition with wood engravings - it adds to the experience immeasurably. Also look at the award winning animated film that catches the essence perfectly
