Passes Test - Flying Colours
1 of 1 found this helpful There's really only one test for these devices and that is run the H2testW software. Essentially, this free software writes to the disc and verifies it.
If the disc passes the test then it is good.
Remember to 'format' the disc on the device you intend using for it.
This disc passed the test with flying colours.
I recommend this disc.
Using the software to test your buy enables you to be choosy over price as this disc was also inexpensive, a win, win surely?

Thrown Together
My first impression on opening the box was, 'Oh my, what a machine' but that all soon faded.
On a closer inspection, I simply couldn't believe just how much rust this 'new' machine was covered, even the spindle from the motor that drives the honing wheel which in turn, via a shaft, drives the whetstone.
As it happens my machine also arrived with a damaged power lead and bush where it enters the grinder body. With so much going on, I decided to open up the machine and to my dismay, discovered two earth lugs with lose wires and the power lead into the switch box not engaged but dangling mid air. And once again, rust everywhere!
Having made the electrics safe I eventually switched on to then discover both wheels were turning in a wildly eccentric fashion to the extent, this so called very quiet machine was making a very loud 'budump' noise in sequence with the lumpy turning of the wheels. One might argue, the stone wheel should be fine after it is dressed but its circular shape was eccentric and nowhere near a true circular shape and on top off that the wheel wobbled from side to side, not a good start!
Back to the honing wheel. This is made of plastic so there is no way it can be made concentric and like its partner the stone wheel, grossly eccentric and a huge wobble from side to side. Also the glue that sticks the leather honing strap to the periphery of the wheel was lathered over the face.
This next bit is very difficult for me to believe. The tool bar is far too short because when I fitted a narrow width chisel I was unable to traverse the full width of the water stone because of this bar so short.
While describing the toolbar, there were nodules of the zinc plating inhibiting the free movement of the straight jig that came with the machine and had to be rubbed down with light emery to free it up. The bar was also out of square so had to be bent to make it fit the machine properly.
The machine I would say, has a lot of potential if the sloppy manufacturing was sorted out. Sort out the short toolbar and why not dress the stone before sending it out and let the owner see the whetwheel turn perfectly his first time out? New machines should not be covered in rust.
It's very difficult to see how I can recommend this machine, yes, it's cheap but sorry to say, also very rough.
I do not recommend this machine.

Sticky Bolts
I have known of these locks for some time but had no idea what they were called until doing some research for light security for my outdoor cabin doors.
I was impressed with the description of these bolts and having a choice of colour made them all the more alluring.
On arrival, they looked well made and impressive enough but soon discovered it was rather difficult to slide the bolts with the star keys. I was expecting a slick slide but instead they seemed to click their way through their travel and at times found it very difficult to get the bolts moving at all. However, giving them the benefit of the doubt, believing they would loosen with use, I fixed them to the doors.
The doors are wood and hasten to say not overly chunky but for operational reasons I had to set the bolts into the door 30 mm from the door faces. To be pedantic, the 30 mm was from the door face to the bolt centre, This is where my dilemma began. The star keys were so short they wouldn't reach the bolt mechanism properly to operate the locking!
Now then, the barrel the bolt sits in is 16 mm so the first bit of the key needs this length merely to engage then add to that the depth into the wood the bolt is set.
All was not lost because there are available, longer reach keys but these disappointingly, were half as much as the original kit again, to buy in.
The 'sticky' mechanisms persisted and in the end I gave each, a shot of a spray lubricant which did help the operation tremendously.
As stated earlier, they certainly look positively impressive and classy but why send out these devices clearing needing a lubricant on the mechanisms and then have keys too short to work after a rather normal installation.
I don't recommend these bolts unless you are prepared to do some modifications and further outlay in cost.
