An excellent lens that exceeded my expectations by a considerable margin.
A superb lens that with an adaptor fits very well with micro four thirds bodies to give a 160-400mm zoom range. Tack sharp from fully open to f8 and sharp enough at f11 unless you intend to make massive enlargements. Beyond f11 is for "emergency use only". f22 and f32 are useless for anything, so why did Nikon provide them? When fully zoomed out to 200mm there is a certain softness at all apertures, but this is easily corected in post-processing. At 185mm and below there is absolutely nothing to complain about. Stick with f5.6 or f8 and you will have nothing to complain about - f4.5 at 90mm is equally good. Everything I have said is the result of using this lens on a MFT body. On a full frame body (less demanding of sharpness due to the larger image) this lens would be just about perfect. In short, a superb lens that will provide tack sharp images for most users and which can be found on eBay for well under £100. The f2.8 version is even better but the price is much, much higher for no corresponding, pro-rata benefit and so is strickly for professionals or those who use a Ferrari as daily transport. No doubt there is a Canon equivalent of equal merit, but not at this price level. As an example of its prowess on an MTF body I have taken (tripod mounted) photos of a vixen at 23 metres distance, effectively at 400m (200mm actual) and f4.5 and on the screen I can clearly see the speckling in her irises and individual hairs in her ears with no evidence of Chromatic abberation. And that was before any post-processing. Quite amazing! Final point, why don't the folk who wrote the software for this review page understand that the literate amongst us actually know what paragraphs are for and what they look like?
Panasonic Lumix G Vario 100-300mm F/4.0-5.6 II AF OIS Lens - NEW

Superb value for money, an easy carry-around, weatherproof, long telephoto for sports and wildlife.
Best used with dual IOS capable bodies. Ignore early reviews of the Mk 1 version on Panasonic G3 bodies. This combination was not good. The Mk 2 (this one) is brilliant and can be used hand held with dual IOS (G8 series and later bodies) down to 1/25th sec. even at 300mm. Best at 200mm., f5.6. An excellent lens but don't expect professional quality at this price (around £410 on the street). Good for prints up to A3 from a 16Mpx sensor using RAW and a little tweaking in Photoshop or, better still, Affinity Photo.

So, so much better than nails
Much, much better than nails. No creaking or squeaking in the future.. Quick and quiet to install. Easily undone later.
