A Simple Retractable Tape Measure - With the Convenience of Being Only Metric
I was looking for a metric-only measure. That means I can measure using either side of the tape - the combined metric/imperial ones are such a pain. This is not the strongest tape measure but it is reasonably light weight yet fairly long so an OK compromise. The length, 7.5m, will do most domestic rooms though not whole houses or gardens. However, this one will still fit in a man's work-trouser pocket - it is about 80mm square. The lock works and by default the measure retracts - some operate the inverse way. Otherwise there is nothing fancy just a simple retractable tape measure.

A Capable, Convenient Bruiser of a Flash
Having a Li-ion battery pack makes this unit a joy. Why weren't flashes always like this? Plenty of capacity, quick charging and easy battery replacement. In the flashy-flesh it is a big unit on any of the svelte Sony cameras. Pair this with a dinky prime lens and the big blitzer looks, well, absurd. Like your favourite massive jumper though you soon won't want to swap it. The capability and convenience are just brilliant.
One thing matters to me - that it can throw the light onto the scene under perfect TTL control. As much as I can tell, this all appears to work perfectly. The interface is complex because the V860II does a lot. Adjusting parameters is made easier by the jog dial and large screen. While the base functions aren't that bad, the many remote options are like navigating a maze.
Build feels excellent. You can't squeeze a gel filter between the quality level of this unit and an own-brand. The only flimsy feeling parts are the wide-angle panel and catch-light - which are always rather naff on any flash. The supplied charger does its job but the indicator lights could grace the Blackpool prom - cover it if you are charging in your hotel room.
I don't have any of the remote triggers, but it looks like you can do almost anything you can think of with only your fingers doing the walking. Coming from old-school photography this looks like the Starship Enterprise compared to the Morris Minor with which I am familiar!

A Good Product but Great Value
This canvas tool case looks very smart in its black/red livery.
At 500mm wide (loaded including end pockets) this is as large as you would want a canvas tool case to be. In fact the danger is that you could overload it weight-wise. A central section zips open to reveal a large area for bulky items flanked by a padded laptop pocket - padded for protection. On the other side a single inner pocket. Either side of this are two full-length, full-height fold-out flaps. Each one has tool fastenings on the flap and the inner wall. One flap has ten tool loops in two rows (one above the other) and the other side nine. One inner wall has four pockets and the other seven both sat beneath four horizontal loops. The pockets are quite sizeable thanks to the overall length of the bag. If I have one criticism it is that the loop elastic runs in one strip but is single-stitched. The loops are in two sizes with the smaller ones being suitable, if a tiny bit tight, for my screwdrivers and the larger ones being ideal for pliers.
At the end of the bag are two velcro-fastened pockets suitable for network testers, multimeters and the like. A strap fastens at the end of the bag which has a padded section for your shoulder. Two half-handles popper together to create a carrying handle. It is a bit of a pain having to clear the shoulder strap and open the handle to get access to the case but this is a trivial complaint really.
Construction is from the sort of heavy canvas material with a thick weave that you expect on bicycle panniers and ruck sacks. It looks smart and feels strong. I worry about the stitching of the elastic parts because I know that they will get punished but everything else seems reassuringly tough. Being just 200mm wide makes it look smaller than it really is and I would keep in mind that this thing is half a metre long. One benefit of course is that you can carry quite a large laptop in the special padded section.
I bought one of these for £20 as a present. At that price I think it is superb value and so bought another for myself.
