I tried my hand at Sashiko needlework earlier this year and had to rely on books as there are no classes offered where I live. Though this book is for machine sashiko, her stich plans work equally well for simplifying the same process if you choose to do the project by hand. It also has great practical instructions on how to transfer pattern designs onto dark fabric. Of the 5 books I got on the subject this is by far the best.
