Great alternative to Wimberley Perpendicular Plate
1 of 1 found this helpful I bought this nodal slider to use with my Wimberley F-2 Macro Bracket. The nodal slider makes using the bracket mounted to a camera body plate much more convenient. Wimberley sells a "perpendicular plate", that is basically the same thing as this nodal slider, except without any of the engraved measurements, no bubble level, and it cost twice as much. For my money this is a much better deal, and who knows, maybe some day I'll even actually use it as a nodal slider for my panoramas!

Works, but could be better
Some good things, some bad. The wafers were numbered and super easy to match to my key. The kit came with plenty of extra wafers and springs. The horrid split wafers in my original lock were replaced with wider single wafers in this one.
So far the locks and cylinders are working well on my car. However, the outer housing of the locks, the levers, etc. did not quite fit together properly and one of the levers came off after only one day of use. I ended up scavenging the rest of the lock, (everything except the tumbler and wafers), from my old locks. The locks now work well, but I fell like for $60 all the parts should have worked. Maybe they should offer a cheaper kit that includes tumbler and wafers only for you to use in your existing locks.
Bottom line though, my locks are now working. So I'm recommending it, barely.

Great for Camera Trapping
Like many people buying these old SB28s, I'm using them for camera trapping. The battery life on standby is excellent, and if you're using the Camtraptions flash triggers, they wake in time to fire on the first shot, This applies when you're using Canon cameras as well as Nikon's. They're also surprisingly small and I find the distance scale on the back useful for getting the power setting and distance into the ballpark without having to remember guide numbers and break out a calculator.
