Solid, well made, great price (ps, it's meant to rust)
3 of 4 found this helpful A well made bowl. As it seems to be a common misunderstanding in other reviewers, i will put my opinion for others. It is by nature and intent untreated steel and thick at that. It is meant to rust and patina, it is pointless applying any coatings due to extra cost and the high likelihood they will simply flake off or fall off / fade in a short time with the intense heat generated. The steel chosen is thick for precisely this reason. If one wishes to spray or apply with some sort of extreme heat resistant coatings, then feel free, but i doubt it will last more than a few fires before coming off, yes even car manifold paint / enamels etc. The "black" left is part of the manufacturing process and acts as a mild protection against moisture and surface rust while in transit. With a little white spirit and an old rag one can easily clean this off, or simply use straight away and use the fire to burn this off. We have used it three times so far with intense wood fires, each time it performs excellently, and the hole was made as i requested. My feet could be put below the fire pit with intense heat and merely kept warm. The thickness of the steel acts quite well as an insulator and is surprisingly only hot to the touch on the legs and side. I do suggest it is not left out in the elements, but rather we have stood it on its side and draped it with a small tarpaulin to keep the rain off it. So far so good. Recommended highly. Enjoy.
