Very well produced selection of original recordings, enhanced alternate takes and live performances.

a good selection of tunes and artists. very good clarity and sound reproduction. I suspect that there has been extensive use of modern voice enhancement technology on many of the tracks.

My favorite band singer

Helen Forrest was one of the best popular-music singers ever! Her powerful beautiful voice was well suited for the cavernous ballrooms of her era (approx 1935-65). Her technical and interpretive chops are unsurpassed. BUT this CD does not do her justice. Like most other CDs on which she is featured I hear distortion on her louder notes/phrases. I've never noticed this on LPs or on radio broadcasts of this singer. I don't notice it on other singers or instruments on the same CDs. So I'm assuming there is some technical/engineering issue associated with recording the resonance other particular voice. This is a great collection of tunes and she does a great job with every song ; so I was very disappointed that the quality of the reproduction was consistently lacking. I wish some sound expert(s) would investigate this problem and reprocess this collection so that posterity could enjoy this wonderful artist more fully.
