Bits make all the difference

I wanted to perforate single skin brick with sufficient holes so I could chisel through the rest. Initially started with a masonry bit and chuck attachment. took 40mins to drill, but didn't give the drill bit much attention. Had a 25mm hole saw + arbor, but the arbor was simply poor.
Eventually took the plunge and bought a set of 5 SDS + drills by Makita. Into the SDS+ chuck and WHAM....like knife through butter.
And this is where I've knocked a star off. I couldn't figure out at what stage of the drilling does the hammer action kick in from the percussion. DOes the chuck have to be pushed in for it to respond?
There was damage to brick work on the other side. Using just the percussion drilling with tSDS+ bits didn't make a difference.
Don't get me wrong...don't regret the purchase. But lacks precision where needed with respect to brick.
And yes.....buy good quality branded drill bits. I snapped an SDS+ drill bit, but have to blame operator rather than bit.

Great set
Was pleasantly surprised by this product and great match for our 5 year old, though the novelty has worn off.
Bats a sturdy enough and glad they supply 3 balls. The net may not survive with the force my son tries to pull the net during set up. But that's operator error
