Brilliant escapism, great if you've read the book....
Having really enjoyed the novel of the same name by R. Delderfield I was both keen and curious to see the BBC's portrayal. I wasn't disappointed. The screen version is fairly accurate and thoroughly enjoyable entertainment for a a couple of wet Sunday afternoons. It was filmed in 1980 so the staging and camera work does seem a little dated but this doesn't really detract from the overall entertainment value. i would recommend it to anyone who has read and enjoyed the book.
