    King of the Dobro
Josh Graves is the reason for any and ALL of the Dobro players in Bluegrass music today from Jerry Douglas on down. All of his fabulous playing on the concerts, radio and TV shows and recordings of Flatt & Scruggs have won him a worldwide fan base....and he alone is the reason the Dobro company itself was able to go back into business in 1970. Thanks to Josh Graves, the Dobro is no longer an instrument on the brink of extinction like it was when the steel guitar first became an electric instrument. For the longest time ever, the Dobro was kept alive by Brother Oswald on Roy Acuff's band and by Josh with Flatt & Scruggs. Oswald's playing style was an earlier melodic, almost purely Hawaiian style, while Josh incorporated blues licks combined with an adaptation of Earl Scruggs' 3 finger banjo to enable the Dobro to step up to the front line in a bluegrass band situation. Josh Graves will always be the 'King of the Dobro' and his legacy lives on in music.
Don't Give Your Heart to a Rambler: My Life with Jimmy Martin, the King of Blueg

    Living With Jimmy Martin
This is a sad story of spousal abuse by one of the major heroes in Bluegrass music. Jimmy Martin was a great performer, but his own worst enemy at the same time. He was a very high strung person with a chip on his shoulder--especially with his rivalry with his former boss, Bill Monroe who kept him off the Grand Ole Opry his entire life. Personally, I felt there was a bit too much dirty laundry that should have been kept private, especially her affairs with other artists, etc. We didn't need to know about those.
