Very thin foam padding. Has no useful effect.
The design and material quality is good. However the performance is let down because it only has a wafer thin strip of foam for the padding material, it makes little difference to comfort. If the manufacturer redesigned the product with a decent thickness of foam padding it would be worth using, but as it stands don't bother.

Excellent dect unit, but the camera is the star feature
There will be lots of people who could benefit from this dect answer machine, and camera package. Panasonic have marketed the camera unit primarily as a baby monitor, for which it is perfect. This amazing technology, allows you to place a separate camera unit ( powered by an adapter pluged into a mains socket ) in any room in your house. If the camera detects a noise in that room, it will page your handset, and you will see the image, and hear the sound, through the handset. You can easily select the sensitivity ( noise required ) to page the handset. You can also page the camera from the handset, which will then display the camera image on you handset
However there is also a call button. This is a lead that plugs into the camera unit (if you want to use this feature), at the end of this lead, is a palm sized grip with a large button incorporated. Press the button, and the handset starts ringing. This is absolutely ideal for using as an emergency button, for the infirm or disabled. They press the button, the handset rings, and an image appears on the handset.
But it gets even better!!
Once the camera and handset are connected, the system becomes an intercom. you can talk to them, and they can talk to you, ie the camera end can hear what the handset is saying, and the hanset can hear and see the person speaking to the camera.
But the most remarkable thing I've found with this system, is the range and clarity of the sound. This will sound crazy, but I swear its true. I was able to get into my car down the drive with the handset, and still receive perfect picture and sound from the camera. I drove approx 50 meters away from the house (bearing in mind the handset is INSIDE A CAR!) before the picture and sound was lost.
The picture is displayed on the handset is in colour on a 1 1/2" display and is crystal clear. The sensitivity of the camera is not suitable for street lighting ie if you point it out of your window at night you'll not see much detail. However indoors (at night) with average room lighting you'll get a good image. Obviously in daylight the image is perfect.
I've only mentioned the camera features of this system in this review, but all the telephony and answering machine functions are as you would expect for Panasonics top of the range dect phones.
As far as I know there is nothing else out there that combines the convenience of a dect handset with this remarkable camera feature. Incidently you can add other cameras to this system.
As I initially said, there will be lots of people who could benefit from this technology, if only they knew it existed!!!

Made in USA this is a top quality tool. Well worth the extra cost.
