Dell sold me a trash laptop, performance wise about 10% of the speed advertised.
Works as expected. My computer was receiving data from a 500Mbps source and could not do better than 80 to 90Mbps. Now with the USB 3 to gigabit Ethernet Adapter I can get speeds up to about 470Mbps. That's a real improvement. The computer is a new Dell laptop that is rated as having a 10.100/1000 gigabit capability. With after hours with Dell Techs (yes, second level Dell Tech was needed) and all the parts of the computer receiving upgrades to the latest specks, no help. Then the Tech said that the board in the computer was only capable of 100Mbps. The computer reported the Gigabit Ethernet capability, but it seems that this "gamers level" $1600 machine was only capable of the anemic 100Mbps Ethernet with the actual card (or built into the motherboard) internal capacity.
Short of returning to computer to Dell (roughly 6 months old) or spending what ever Dell would charge to add the board internally if possible, I opted to go with your external fix.
I still suspect that the Dell has the capability built in and it has failed, but they won't admit it.
So Dell gets a 1 of 10 rating for their high end expensive product. That's what I get for trying Dell. I have been a HP person for years and doubt that I will give Dell another chance after the way I have been treated.
I expect that most of their customers would not know the difference, but it sure is a poor way to sell "high end expensive gamers computers"
