Great Historic Performance
This historic performance of one on Verdi's most popular operas was recorded in July 1943 in Rome as WWII was reaching its climax. Italian dictator Mussolini had just resigned and Italy was being invaded by the German and the American armies. How these artists managed to concentrate to make this full-length recording is truly remarkable. Highly recommended!
