One From the Heart
1 of 2 found this helpful I bought this film on the recommendation of a friend who had watched it no less than 7 times and thought it "spellbinding". I found it difficult almost painful to watch it once, and can understand why it was a box office failure, but not why it bankrupted the studio that made it. To be honest I found it impossible to see exactly where all the money had been spent, although the explanation was that very little was shot on location, and apparently the cost of building and lighting the sets was enormous. They could have saved themselves the expense. For me the sets did nothing to lift a very banal storyline about a couple who separate after several years of marriage, and their subsequent love affairs.
Much was made at the beginning of the film of the intimate moments beween the leading characters, but the shedding of clothes by the female lead was too frequent and 'arty', and touched by the same surrealism which is to be found in many of the scenes throughout the film. Indeed, even the lead characters themselves resemble card-board cut outs, having little or no depth at all, and thus making it impossible for the audience to empathize with them. Indeed, after a short time I began to feel a measure of dislike for both of them, as their actions denoted their only characteristics, which were a ruthless selfishness an utter childishness, with a hefty measure of self pity thrown in.
Billed as a 'Musical' I found the music to be the most forgetable part of the film, except for a couple of male vocals which sounded as if the singer had a throat full of rusty nails, and found it difficult to hold a note for more than a second, these I shall remember for a while.
The only scene which I will recall out of the entire film is the one in which the female lead walks down the road in Las Vegas with her suitcase, having left her husband, and the wet road surface reflects the brilliant neon lights. Needless to say it is the one that has been used on the front of the case holding the film.
What is it I have missed? My friend was totally enthralled by this film, yet for me and many others (not least the studio) it was a complete disaster.
Perhaps, because it evokes such widely differing opinions, it is worth watching, if only to 'see for yourself'.

Light to lift and easy to install.
3 of 3 found this helpful This is a replacement for one we bought 15 years ago. We were dreading the installation, as we are both in our seventies, but the pond is light and manouverable and we were able to install it in an hour. Although it is light it isn't flimsy, and should last well. We were delighted with it, and I'm sure the fish were too.
