There was an initial error with being sent the wrong book but the seller was very helpful and sorted this out immediately with very quick customer service and response times, also paying for the return of the incorrect book and postage of the correct one only a few days later. Bult to last - superb results - wonderful to handle. Forget plastic cameras
3 of 3 found this helpful I am now a proud D300 owner. Having climbed through the ranks from D40 - D80 - D200 then to D7000 I thought I had reached the ultimate Nikon amteaur DX body, super to hold and reasonable easy to reach features but no! The earlier cameras performed well up to thier spec. with no real problems. However the D7000 had awful back focus problems and no amount of internal correction would cure this. I tried a second body which had exactly the same problem. So I bought a D300s as it was the closest in spec. to the D7000. Fantastic camera but too costly. If you want a video camera, buy the real thing. I realised the D300 would be the body for me and so it has proved to be. Getting a little older I found camera shake was a major problem even with VR lenses so the heavier bodied camera suited me well and I can get shake-free results that the I couldn't achieve with any of the others mentioned. I noticed both with the D300s and the D300 that the natural colour reproduction of the sensor was far better than the D7000 which always seemed to give too warm a tone. I rarely need to adjust exposure settings in camera or engage in post-processing gymnastics with Adobe Lightroom. This is the closest I have come to the magic of the earlier metal-bodied Nikon film cameras of the sixties which were not only brilliant performers but were so tactile and an absolute pleasure to use. I have read the professional reviews which nit-pick over details us mere mortals would never notice and disagree with their comparisons of the D7000/D300. Save your money get a beautifully crafted and almost unbreakable camera and go for the D300. It should outlive the D7000 by many years.

Better than expected
I have used and tested most of the Fuji lenses over the last ten years and this lens has a perfect range of focal lengths and is more than acceptably sharp and the colour rendition is one of the best. Most important is the image stabilisation it is amazing so slow shutter speeds can be used with ease. A perfect holiday lens and at f6.3 it produces stunning results.

A gem of a camera
4 of 5 found this helpful Having ditched my Nikon full frame and prime lenses, I was concerned that I may have made an error in trying to lower the massive weight of my kit. My fears were unfounded. The cameras instant and easy access to all settings made adjustments a breeze compared to the nested menu system of the old design. The quality of the newer lenses is outstanding. With weather resistance and beautiful build quality it has brought the joy of photography I had when I was younger. I am now taking better pictures than I have ever done before. I use the 16mm f1.4, 35mm f2, 56mm f1.2 and am staggered by the way the images are processed by the camera even in the jpegs. Friends who see my latest photographs are always asking which camera I am using now. The only disappointment I have is that there won't be a B&W Acros film simulation for this model as it hasn't got the pixel size to handle this wonderful film simulation. Many say they love the retro look of the camera but I believe it has been designed not just to have that look but this design of camera is timeless and should be continued not the current plastic blobs produced by many mainstream camera suppliers.
