Could be much better with a little effort
Itβs only been in place a few days and squirrels as with most wild animals were wary of it. Had to place food on top of lid to let them know what it was for. Bit ropey on the construction though with at least one nail off target and splitting edge of wood inside box, gaps between base and sides and hinge lopsided.
Most disappointing bit was that piece of plastic used on front to hold in food is so thin and flimsy, that squirrels can lift it up to reach more desirable food stuffs. This in turn can lift the lid high enough to allow rain in. In my case the squirrel got it so high it ended up at an angle in the slot, so that when the animal jumped down on the top next time, the corner broke off. Once broken, the acrylic becomes very sharp and probably risks cutting/injuring the animals.
