An honest and well researched book on a painful subject!
Cruel Britannia is a detailed history of torture and how it has been used in Britain over the years to obtain information. The part that interested me was the involvement of HM Intelligence Corps and the JSIW which featured in a television programme some years ago. It was extremely interesting to read how various parts of HM Government security services used torture both at home and abroad.
I am impressed by the book as it obvious that there has been an extraordinary amount of research undertaken and verified. It clearly shows that we are as tained as those we condemn in many ways and yet we still act in denial.
As this book stands alone as far as I am aware it cannot be compared to others. I strongly urge you to read this book. It will bring a sense of balance and honesty which is lacking in society and the way it is giverned and portrayed.

A terrible event from the Canadian perspective. Little British coverage.
I purchased this for my uncle who is 90 and I suppose we hoped to see the reality behind what happened as his father, my grandfather was there and was wounded. In truth we saw a Canadian perspective on the whole event which is not surprising because they were in truth the majority force there. It was disappointing from that view point but the details and narrative was faultless. So if you want to see what the English actually did or were involved in at Vimy Ridge, then look elsewhere. If you want to see what the Canadians did or the engagement from their point of view then this is for you.
