HP23 expired cartridges

I just bought a pack of two HP23 cartridges. The have a 1 1/2 year old expiration date. Popped it in printer -- NO YELLOW ink. Placed the cartridge in the sink with a low stream of hot water striking the lower portion of the print cart. Took it out after 2 min. Put the bottom of the cartridge on a piece of rolled up toilet paper. Some yellow showed up. Squeezed both sides of the cartridge a few times, put cartridge agains the toilet paper again. Voila - works great. I use an old HP895cxi printer that doesn't check for expiration date.

This is my 4th Canon ip4300. The previous 3 were fried by a power surge during a northeaster. I have ordered another one and just love the ink cost, easy to use and print quality. Canon is the best .....
