HP Scanjet G4050 unsuitable for transparency scanning.
Very disappointing as a slide scanner. Results are inferior to the sort of 1800 dpi digital slide copier which can be found for £50 or less.
Probably fine as a document or picture scanner.
Difficult to believe a firm like HP would produce a product so unfit for purpose.
Software for Windows 8.1 is limited.
A lot of errors when trying to scan at higher resolutions.

Different from the actual Sony component but useful to some people.
Not actually a Sony FDA-EP12 component or an equivalent. The Sony component has a soft rubber facing and is made up from several parts. This is important for spectacle wearers. The supplied component is a hard plastic single piece moulding. It is also smaller overall than the Sony component.
For some users this would be a suitable substitute for the Sony item. It is much cheaper than the Sony component which is also difficult to find on sale.

USB3 PCI card
Plenty of USB3 outlets. Good thing is 20 pin connector to take outlets to case front. Not all cards have this.
