The Motorcycle Diaries (Widescreen Edition) - DVD - VERY GOOD

A rare film with real heart
The fact that this film is from a book about Che Guevara's early travels is almost beside the point, other than to show how his and his friend's motorcycle journey showed the young Che how the people of South America, especially the indigenous people, were (and still are) being exploited by the greed of unrestrained capitalism. But the overwhelming strength of this film is its portrayal of a young man's heart being opened to the force of true, unconditional compassion and the desire to serve others. May all our hearts be so opened.

Various Artists - Buddhist Chants / Various [New CD] UK - Import

Pleasant but not inspiring
The Chinese music is pleasant background music for relaxation, but not particularly inspiring to this Westerner. The Om Mani Padme Hung chanted mantra track has a nice feeling, though. With the other sutras it would be helpful to have English translations included in a booklet, but there is no such booklet in the package. The cover art is a bit deceptive, depicting a Thai monk and Buddha and temple, giving the impression that the music inside is from the Theravadin Buddhist tradition, but it is not. It is all from a Chinese Buddhist tradition.

A must for David Crosby fans
If you're a fan of David Crosby, this is a must-own. I first became a fan of his (as well as the other Byrds) at age 13, and have grown up with his music at every stage of life, now into "elderhood." What's remarkable is that Crosby's songs and voice are better than ever, approaching true wisdom and maturity. Amazing.
