Looking to get serious in DSLR photography? Then check this one out!

I bought one of these on ebay and I love it. I sought advice from loads of experienced photographers as to which second hand Canon DSLR to buy before getting this and it has to be one of the best for the price! (expect to pay between £300-400 on ebay for body only). It's classed as a semi-pro or enthusiast camera, it's reassuringly big and heavy (definitely not a toy) and as it is compatible with all EF and EF-S lenses, it will remain valid for years to come. If you want video, go newer (such as 550 or 600D etc) as this one won't do it but if, like me, you just want to start taking your hobby seriously, consider one of these and you should not be disappointed! Not cheap but essential

There are many probes, this one is definitely not the cheapest but if you really want to find the items quickly after digging a hole, then you need one of these. One recomendation is buy a better battery and replace the cheap one that comes with it. It might last an hour.

Great reference book for Metal Detectorists!

Superb book if you are a Metal detectorist, with much of the type of finds commonly (and less commonly for the more fortunate!) unearthed. It has made me take a much closer look at some of the things I had thought might have just been junk - the history of some items is compelling and I bet a lot of people out there who started off hoping just to find old coins then find themselves becoming more and more interested in the history of the artefacts they pull up! This book not only explains the types of item, what they were made from, who made them and when, and also how they were used. It is helped by excellent photos and had me comparing many of my items trying to date them.
