7027a and the 6L6GC family of tubes
Well, I certainly can’t say enough good about the vintage RCA 7027a’s! May be my FAVORITE tube ever....period.
Just wonderful sound, powerful, well built tube.
Gotta make sure your Amp can take them(pin 6) if you have a 6L6 amp. I’ve run these in my MC240’s(dual mono setup, 2 quads) my Stromberg ASR-444 and many other amps.
I also have the “holy grail” RCA Backplates, Sylvania STR’s, GE 7581a, Tung-Sol 7581a, WINGED C’s, and about 15 other quads of 6L6/7581a/7027a etc.
the RCA 7027a is King imo. Built like tanks, extra cooling fins, 35w plate, look cool too.
Get em while ya can. I’m buying as many NOS quads as I can. When they’re gone, they’re gone.
NOTHING modern can touch these. The only half decent modern6L6GC equivalent that’s even worth buying is the Tung-Sol 7581a, imo. It’s a steal.
Still doesn’t hold up to the RCA 7027a.
Keep an eye out on organ amps. Found a few that way.
Well, rock on!

GREAT VINTAGE WE WIRE. No doubt legit.
Ok, so I’ve been in a bit of a Western Electric Wire Bender. I recently made new Speaker wire from WE kS13885 solid core wire 16 awg, and used it in the 2 MC240’s it runs from. During their restore.
I’ve recently restored my TD-124 MKiI, and it’s SME 3009. However it had the Original SME rca cable. I decided to go all out and make a new one from this very cable. I did so using one run for each channel, then used PTFE tubing, and very thick copper shielding. Covered in cloth. I used the shielding as the turntable ground, extended with...you guessed it. This wire. I soldered it up using Cardas quad solder, and through some real nice solid copper plugs on. Used clear PTFE tubing for the last 8 inches or so, so show of this gorgeous wire. It was ashame to cover at all. But a Phono cord needs it.
Next up I made new interconnects for my Tube Dac, Sane way, except this time without a shield. Twisting the wire accomplished great noise rejection.
I plugged these into my MX-110z and the IMMEDIATE difference was startling. Oh a high dollar system which previously used Van Den Hul cable’s all around.
Can’t say enough good about this stuff. I’ll be ordering more for sure. It’s in beautiful shape. Zero corrosion on any wire. I sacrificed on to check the whole length before making the cables to be sure.
Gotta love when a plan comes together, and a product is as good as its reputation. I’m not a physicist or a metallurgist, so I’ll leave the science to them. All I know is this wire is special.
They truly don’t make it like they used to.
