Very watchable and very fascinating

I would really recommend Meet the Romans. The reason I bought this excellent DVD is because, I caught some of the last episode when it was shown on the TV and I thought, I have just got to add this to my collection. Mary Beard is fabulous, her joy and knowledge about the Romans comes shining through. She makes you think about the Romans in a more real way, and see them in a very different light so they don't seem quite as remote. Also she has a great sense of fun and has a wonderful way of explaining things. Very watchable and very fascinating. I just wish there had been more of it, 2 disc set, not enough, bring on Meet the Romans II

Atmospheric Early Hitchcock

I have always enjoyed the Hitchcock films although, I am unfamiliar with the very early ones like The Lodger. Also as they are silent films they do not generally get a viewing on mainstream TV. I really enjoyed this film, the story is a very clever one and as always with Hitchcock there is a lovely sense of humour running throughout the film. I had forgotten the magic of silent films and how much you as the audience have to participate, you have to watch it and not be doing something else at the same time as the plot moves quickly on. The music was good, the glimpses of long ago London brilliant. Seeing the fog like that, took me back to my childhood and that sense of danger you felt in it. The actors were very expressive and spoke volumes without saying a word. The film itself is a bit crackly in places and it is a shame that it hasn't been cleaned up although saying that it does also add a certain amount of charm to it. I'm very happy to add it to my collection of Hitchcock films.
