Krakatoa, The Day the World Exploded
This is the book for people who love history and science, but don't like reading dry texts. Simon Winchester makes the history of Indonesia, its people, scientists of the period, the colonial administrators and lastly the volcano itself, come alive for the reader. He writes in an entertaining and socially acute style that makes this book far from dry. This is an absolutely enjoyable read for that summer vacation of a cold winter evening.
