Reliable workhorse
The MacBook Pro, 2009 was faster and more powerful than I thought. I had been using a mid 2009 MacBook Air and the Pro (which is comparable price on ebay) outperformed especially under heavy load. I tend to leave a lot of tabs open as well as Microsoft Office.
If you plan on keeping a computer for a long time I would probably recommend spending the same amount of money on a brand new and more easily upgradable Windows PC. However, if you are the type to resell and upgrade every couple of years, the MacBook Pro works wonderfully and retains its resale value.

Great bang for your buck
Not quite as high resolution as 4k monitors but much cheaper and still impressive display. Good enough for gaming but cheap enough to use for work.
