A tad confused
This guide is formatted differently than other LEGO guides in that the Minikit directions for free play are all placed in an area after the walk-through directions. This means that if you play the game through and then use the guide for help to get all minikits, you have to bookmark both places in the guide. You need to look for what you may have missed on the walk-through and then look at what you need to do for free-play only kits. It can be confusing and adds wear and tear to the book. If you use the online guide, I suggest you open a second window for the free play instructions.
The red bricks are noted, but the listing of what each one does in not provided. There are only two places (one each in two of the four islands) to activate the bricks, and they DO show what each brick is for. It makes it slightly more difficult to determine which bricks you want to go for and where to go.
There also is no all-inclusive list in the back of the book showing all the gold/red bricks and amber pieces with their corresponding game locations. I like those because I can copy them and check them off as I go. That is especially helpful when you have more than one gamer in the house.
These changes in format have changed the way I use the book as opposed to the other guides for LEGO games, but it still makes my enjoyment of the game greater so I can get 100%. As I am a gamer over 50, the guides are invaluable to me. I don't seem to have the genetic predisposition to computer gaming apparent in the younger generations :}
