S. S. Peiper: Life and Death of Jochen Peiper by Kessler, Leo Paperback Book The

Perfectly titled but without impact.
Firstly I received a hard back copy which was a nice surprise. However the cover wasn't the one shown in the ad which was a disappointment because the amateur hour illustration is pretty bad. I knew some of the basics of SS Colonel Peiper but wanted to know more detail. As with all books concerning the second world war, Germany, the holocaust and the SS one needs to apply some critical thinking as there is a lot of propaganda out there. This book I think was written about five minutes after Peiper was murdered and so the dust hadn't settled and the full details were not available. The author makes claims in the book that are never substantiated. Eg. at the start he states that the local ironmonger identified Peiper and called his murderous mates in Paris who came to Traves and killed him. How does he know this??? He writes well and the book flows full of info about Peiper's career, trial etc and was most enjoyable to read. It proposes various themes for how the Malmedy massacre took place. I am personally still not sure if it was deliberate or a silly and messy mistake. He identifies clearly that claims of other mass shootings by the same SS unit were false. The book is well worth a read as long as you hold a little skepticism. I will now read Danny Parker's book on the same subject to get some balance.

Very good
Once you get the software set up, not easy, this is a brilliant addition for any office or home office. The printer whizzes into action and prints the labels you send immediately and without fuss.

Fall: The Mystery of Robert Maxwell | John Preston

The biggest fraudster in UK history.
I worked in the area of the Daily Mirror at the time and saw him from time to time. He was a shyster, liar and thief. This book is well researched and almost everyone in the mix is interviewed and quoted. I couldn't put it down. A great read and seems to bring the story up to date.
