Oh So Close!
Nice build quality as you would expect even from entry level Davosa watches.
Love the blue metallic aluminium bezel insert, but the blue of the face isn’t quite as good, although not by a significant margin.
Three downsides would be 1) The faux patina of the hands and markers is a bit two dimensional, and lacks any variation resulting in it looking more of a slightly weird paint colour rather than patina. 2) The balance of the face would benefit hugely from a model name below the handset. When both hands are occupying the upper half of the face, the lower half is so blank, it looks as if something is missing...which (in my opinion), it is! 3) The GMT function isn’t a true GMT function (hardly surprising at this price point), but more irritatingly, it is frustratingly difficult to set accurately as it seems to suffer from a “pick up” delay. Let’s say you want to set it two hours ahead from a local time of 8pm. Using the bezel markers, you align the GMT hand to 10pm (22 hrs on the bezel). Check it 2 hours later, and it won’t be pointing at 24hrs as it should. It seems to always end up 15 minutes or so behind where it should be. Result? You have to second guess it a bit, and advance it slightly beyond what it should be, and hope that the pick up delay brings it back to the correct two hour advance. Not the best.
Other than that, it’s a pretty thing to look at, and if the GMT function doesn’t bother you, then it’s quartz accuracy will serve you well enough as a dress down watch.

Timeless Timekeeping
1 of 1 found this helpful Just a quality “go to” watch that is aesthetically “right”. I love that it has withstood the onslaught of the giant watch phase, and has stuck steadfastly to a size that fits most wrists, and is perfectly legible in normal daylight.
Although easiest to pigeonhole as a “dress” watch, it would be just as effective as an “all day, every day” watch, thus it appeals to both the non collector and the collector alike.
Mechanical automatics have enjoyed a resurgence in recent years, and it’s no wonder when movements are now so well sorted and dependable.
While a watch like this will never grow in value, it offers the wearer years and years of dependable service, and classic good looks that will never appear outdated at a price point that is completely affordable. This alongside my Orient Star Classic with a white sunburst face now covers all of my dress watch needs and wants for an outlay off less than £500. That’s not too outrageous for two such beautiful timepieces.
There have been rumours that Seiko are planning to drop this classic home market watch. For the life of me, I can’t imagine why. It’s a bit like a Porsche 911 shape, or a Coca Cola bottle. Trying to change either would be a disastrous move, and I would put the Seiko SARB033 in the same bracket. It’s damn near perfect, so leave it alone, and carry on making it. It’s a proper gem of a watch.
