Hail the New Empire
I bought this CD on the recommendation of Will at Caerllysi Music, having never heard any of this band's music before. Billed as progressive rock this new album is certainly at the heavier end of that spectrum. The opening track, 'De-Fi-Ance', builds in intensity with more than a hint of Dream Theater with punchy guitar work over a background of urgent keyboards. The pace changes a number of times seting the tone for the following tracks. At 14 minutes 'I Could Be God' is the longest track. Featuring a keyboard based theme it moves along at a great pace. A more typical 'progressive' track, it has a number of phases both quiet and more energetic. Some beautiful lyrics as well. A mix of short and long tracks make up the rest of this thought provoking release. Overall a great album with excellent musicianship shown throughout. My choice for best release of 2007!

Yes' Keyboard man's First Solo Release
Way back in the depths of time keyboard viruoso Rick Wakeman left The Strawbs to join Yes. However, his talents were such that material outside of the band were inevitable, and his first solo effort appeared in 1973. Themed around henry VIII's infamous 6 wives, each of the tracks attempts to reflect the character of each lady. Almost totally instrumental it features a beautiful hymn on Anne Boleyn, a variety of keyboard and a magnificent church organ. A great start to a thirty four year solo career - for both Rick and you the listener.

A Great Taster of this Topical Show
How the memories come flooding back - and the laughs. Introduced by the writers, these episodes show the development of the show, and although many of the topics relate to events of the day, many are still relevant today, and the rest just bring back memories. The series is based around a TV news room, with vain presenter, old hack, incompetent editior, and a a host of other characters that one is sure are based on real people! Some biting humour, pathos and hard hitting comments on the issues of the day. Once you've seen this you'll want to buy the complete multiple series!
