Satisfying resolution to Soul Drinkers saga, but sloppily edited
Wraps up the Soul Drinker saga nicely, with plenty of plot twists and a resolution which is even moving. (There is no point in reading this if you are not already familiar with Counter's Soul Drinker novels.) However, this is one of the most sloppily edited books I have seen from a professional publisher. Major supporting characters are introduced as members of one Space Marine chapter, then described as members of another. Just ridiculous.

Fun, funny Eurocomic
The creator of this graphic album was the Belgian Franquin, a master of the Franco-Belgian style most American comics fans would associate with Tintin and Asterix. The story originally dates from 1960, the English translation from the 1990s. The comic tells the story of how the two title characters, investigative reporters, face the evil Zorglub and defeat his plot to take over the world and be recognized as the greatest genius of all time. Zorglub's mind-controlled army and his penchant for working through the police make him a fascist figure, although never competent enough to be truly menacing. The story is funny and enjoyable, and does not require background knowledge of the long-running Spirou saga.

Warhammer 40K Imperial Guard Action, nothing special
This is a compilation of three novels and two short stories about a "Dirty Dozen" style military unit in the Warhammer 40K universe. It's OK, but no more than that. The main character, Kage, is pretty thin and not even consistently characterized. The action scenes are pretty well-done, so if you just want a bunch of Warhammer 40K Imperial Guard action, this book would be an acceptable choice.
