Pleasant, mellow, expressive sound
Teddy Thompson is just beginning to be recognized--at least in the US. When I went to see him perform live and people asked what concert I was attending, when I said, "Teddy Thompson," the response was invariably, "Who?" It won't take this talented performer long to answer that question for them.
I became curious about Teddy's music because he played the guitar and sang backup vocals on all of Rufus Wainwright's albums (and I very much like his music). I found this particular album on iTunes and downloaded it. I liked this album so much, I put his next, SEPARATE WAYS, on pre-order, and I bought his EP, BLUNDERBUSS. Teddy's sound hearkens back to his parents' folk/rock roots, but it's uniquely his. Because I like the album so much, I didn't want just my backup CD--so I purchased the real thing.
Unrelated to this psrticular album, if you ever get a chance to see Teddy Thompson live, jump at the opportunity. He's even better live than he is with a nice, clean, recording studio sound--and what I saw was a solo acoustic performance. He's also a very gracious, unpretentious young man who took the time to chat briefly with me after the performance.
