Repairs certainly feasible. Hacking potential!

As others mentioned these are "salvage" but often in good shape.
The two I received are functioning well enough for my needs though will need to regenerate them.
I'm writing this all up on FB "FTIJHI" group and also 4HV "Care and Feeding of ancient digital sensors"
Also worth a try to get it taking test pictures for sensor diagnostics is using a "capsule" (not going to give any more tips, you'll need to Google it as don't want DHS showing up )

As described, need to locate a socket but the vacuum and heater is good.

Interesting product, ideal for tinkering/hacking/etc
Nice construction, upon disassembling (it unscrews!) the acrylic IR transmissive lens fell out and revealed two circuit boards and on the back of the heatsink a contact pad for central RGB LED.
Looks like the IR receiver isn't a standard one possibly similar to the variety used on model helicopters at 50 kHz?
Alas the protocol seems somewhat mysterious but can probably hack it into Ambilight clone with some Pi.
Incidentally the LED board has JC-178A 130621 if that helps anyone.
Unlike earlier units the HV and LV sections are separate but lower section unscrews with three tiny Philips screws.
In this section is the usual step-down board with series capacitor, which limits voltage to sensible levels however be careful as sometimes mains can be on both at lower but still hazardous currents.
The units with problems might be ones where the 'micro has an issue so worth checking soldering on the crystal/IRX.
