MTH C&O 614
1 of 1 found this helpful This 1999 release almost coincided with the C&O 614's fan trip runs from 1996-1998 over the old Erie trackage. As nice as the engine is it is not an accurate representation of the C&O J3a Greenbrier. The Timken roller bearing rods are missing the tandem side rod between the 2nd and 3rd drivers. This was corrected in later releases of the C&O J3a. What is interesting is that MTH, in their 1998 catalog, shows an accurate pilot model of the engine. However, the initial release fell short of what it should have been.
Despite all that it is a good runner and, if the sound package has been updated, can become operational via remote control.

OGR Building Kits are an excellent buy
Having just received this kit I have not yet started it. However I recently built a similar kit by the same manufacturer and it went together easily and any detail painting was accomplished without difficulty. The buildings are solid and present nicely when finished. The pieces are precision molded and have plenty of detail. Adhering the interior window materials can be challenging but not impossible. I don't think these kits are being made anymore so if you want one better secure one ASAP. OGR is still supporting them via downloadable instruction sheets.

Nice option
For the money spent the valve caps are of decent quality and the supplied wrench/key fob is an added bonus. Some chrome or brushed aluminum sleeves to fit over the valve stems would have finished off the appearance.
