No better letterer
This is both a beautiful and fascinating book - impossible not to keep turning the pages with their glorious illustrations! Irene Wellington was not only an extremely accomplished artist, she was also the teacher and inspiration for succeeding generations of calligraphers. As such this is an essential volume for everyone interested in lettering in all its forms, be they practitioners themselves, or appreciators of this important art form.

Even better with pictures!
'Summoned by Bells' is a wonderful autobiography - warm, humorous, touching - John Betjeman's early life creates its own pictures. But Sir Hugh Casson's delightful and skilful illustrations (many are Ardizzioni-like) only enhance those - and what a joy that there are so many of them interspersed within the text! I have a first edition of the book, but most gladly put this volume alongside it - and have purchased another copy for a friend too.
