Penny Dreadful: The Complete Series [New DVD] Boxed Set, Dolby, Dubbed, Subtit

Engrossing, relaxing, perplexing, stimulating entertainment.

This is an enjoyable flight of dark fantasy. The scenes at the Grand Guignol (this is what folks did before horror movies) are rather like the series in microcosm. The characters are theatrical onions. We watch as layer after layer is peeled back with growing apprehension that the centers are dark, slimy and rotten. Binging this series is my latest guilty pleasure. Also, it's great to see Billie Piper again, and dirty old man that I am, to see all of her! Like the Grand Guignol, Penny Dreadful appeals to our basest and our highest instincts while never insisting that it be taken seriously.
