Mussolini's Soldiers by Rex Trye (1995)
A most welcome addition to a much neglected aspect of the Second World War, the contribution of the Italian armed forces to the Axis cause. Rex Trye's book covers the personal uniforms and equipment of the ordinary Italian soldier in excellent detail with plenty of photographs including several pages of uniforms and weapons in colour, as well as giving an insight into the reasons for the disasters the Italian army suffered initally at the beginning of WW2, namely inferior equipment, bad and indecisive leadership with poorly co-ordinated war aims, and the poor understanding of all arms cohesion, with mainly conscript infantry denied proper armour and motorised support. That said, the Italians learned pretty quickly, and gave the British several severe shocks in North Africa as the war progressed. Rex Tyre does his best to give us an overview of how the Italian soldier looked and was equipped and at least an insight into how they fought, there are so few English books on the Italian army in WW2 that I would recommend it for this reason alone. On other network sights his work has been given some poor reviews, I think that is unfair, as at least he has tried to put flesh on some very poor bones, and I for one enjoyed his efforts, if you are a WW2 buff this would be a welcome addition to your library, as well as the authors sister book Mussolini's Afrika Korps: The Italian Army in North Africa, 1940-1943: Again a book with plenty of photographs and personal anecdotes of the Italian soldier at war, the one drawback about both books is that they are pretty rare and so the price may be prohibitive, that said, I still think they are a worth while addition to any library.

EITHER YOU LOVE THE WIRE, OR YOU HAVE'NT SEEN IT,
TELEVISION DRAMA AT IT'S BEST, IT'S AN OLD CLICHE ABOUT THE WIRE, THAT EITHER YOU LOVE IT OR YOU HAVE'NT SEEN IT, BUT NO SERIES SINCE THE SOPRANOS CAPTURES THE ESSENCE OF TENSION, INTERPLAY AND SCENARIOS OF THE WIRE. SET IN BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, SERIES ONE IS BASED INITIALLY AROUND A LOCAL DRUGS EMPIRE, AND THE POLICE OUT TO DISRUPT THEM, THE FOLLOWING SERIES BRANCH OUT TO THE DOCKS, LOCAL SCHOOLS AND POLITICS. THE MAIN CHARACTERS INTERWEAVE THROUGOUT ALL THE SERIES UNTIL THE POINT THAT YOU FEEL YOU ALMOST KNOW THESE FICTIONAL INDIVIDUALS AS REAL, THAT'S HOW GOOD IT IS, ANYHOW DON'T READ ANYMORE JUST WATCH AND ENJOY.
