Interesting critical study.
The footnotes on the text itself are detailed and offer deeper understanding of Shakespeare's time, and the anthology of critical essays give a general glimpse of the controversy surrounding The Tempest in modern days and good introduction to how to deal with those different interpretations. A good companion for students or readers interested in contemporary scholastic takes on Shakespeare's tragic-comedy.

A protest against exploitation
The story's unique punctuation may make it difficult to read the first time, but once you know the basic plot it will not be a problem. The story is about the main character The Girl's maturation from being an abused girl into an independent member of a communist-like society. Although communism is outdated today, the story's setting in the Depression era explains why communism held such an appeal in the 20th century when capitalism fails to provide prosperity for the average Americans in the story. If you are interested in themes like feminist awakening and critique against the American dream, then this is the novel for you. Just try to read it through once and you will get used to the style.
