A splendid collection
1 of 1 found this helpful This is an excellent collection which will satisfy all but the most devoted Abba completists. It includes all eight of the group's studio albums, all of which contain gems from their repertoire, reaching a zenith with Super Trouper which ranks alongside The Beatles' finest as one of the greatest pop albums ever recorded. The ninth disc includes works which never appeared on an official album, such as Fernando and Gimme Gimme Gimme, together with several rarely heard B sides, Cassandra being a superb example from the tail end of their career. There are unfortunately a few omissions, for example the single version of Ring Ring which includes saxophone phrases which do not appear on the album cut, and live versions of I Wonder (Departure) and Take A Chance On Me which were released as b sides. Also I Am The City is missing, a track from their never completed ninth album (although it did find its way onto the More Abba Gold compilation. The inclusion of these would have made this the definitive all-inclusive Abba set. A 40 page booklet has a detailed chronology of the band's history with some rare photographs. Altogether a very worthy and worthwhile collection.

Bach on non-period instruments
The takeover of Bach and many of his contemporaries by the period instrument musicians was by and large a good thing, allowing the architecture of the works to become more apparent without the thick textures of previous readings. This, however, is a performance from the old school that more than merits attention. Karajan heads a list of distinguished performers, and the sensitivity and texture means that it can more than hold its own with more recent recordings.

A band in changes
A comprehensive collection of the work of this group, known mainly for their 1967 hit 'Kites'. Charts their beginnings as a blue-eyed soul band, the singles and album they made before the hit brought them into the public eye with a totally different image. Includes the singles afterwards, the vain search for another success and the second album they recorded that was never released, up to their eventual split in 1969 and their metamorphosis into the 70s band Gentle Giant. A fascinating journey with some excellent examples of almost psychedelic pop which deserved much more attention than they received. Highly recommended.
